Summary
Historical pageants were popular with churches and religious organisations; this is an interwar example from Middlesbrough. The pageant seems to have held under the auspices of the Church of England, and specifically the Middlesbrough Rural Deanery. As its title suggests, the content focused on the history of missionary activity, its final episode portraying 'Christian Missions To-Day (1938)'.
The pageant was held in the grounds of Ormesby Hall, now in the care of the National Trust. At the time it was the home of James and Ruth Pennyman, who were involved in a number of local charitable and other activities (Ruth having a particular interest in the arts, including theatre).
